Telnet software for Windows
What is Telnet?
Telnet is a protocol that allows for raw text-based communication over a TCP/IP network. Telnet is not encrypted, so for sensitive data it is recommended to use SSH instead. Please visit our SSH information page for some basic information about SSH.
HyperTerminal Private Edition is a Telnet Windows client. It can connect over telnet to other systems to facilitate communication between the two. It can also serve as a basic telnet host allowing direct communication and file transfer between two computers using telnet.
HyperACCESS is also a Telnet client for Windows. In addition to serving as a basic Telnet client HyperACCESS has a powerful scripting API that can be used to automate the telnet connection with scripting. Please see our API Manual or sample scripts for more information about scripting. HyperACCESS also has a more advanced host mode allowing a telnet server to be created.
Both programs are compatible with the latest versions of Windows including Windows 7, 8, 10, 11, and Vista. Both programs also support the SSH protocol.
Please see our SSH and Telnet howto for HyperTerminal or HyperACCESS SSH/Telnet tutorial for information on how to Telnet using the program.
