Why doesn’t HTPE redial when the line is busy?
First check the entry Properties/Connect To tab to make sure that “Redial on busy” is checked. If that is checked, this can occur if the modem you are using is not initialized with the X4 parameter. This tells the modem to return result codes, such as BUSY. We will not redial if we do not see a BUSY code returned from the modem. The best way to tell this is to go into Control Panel/Modems. Highlight your modem and select Properties. Choose the Connection tab. Then click on the Advanced button. You will see a checkbox to “record a log file.” In Windows 95, this filename is MODEMLOG.TXT in your Windows\system directory. Then try to connect to the site. When it does not redial after the line is busy, open this file and look through it to see if the modem sent back BUSY. If not, go back into the Advanced settings and add X4 in the Extra settings field.
